Colorado American Legion Adventures CALA Skydivers
Colorado American Legion Adventures (CALA) is an adventure sports program, developed by The American Legion, Department of Colorado, and is designed to offer outdoor programs to Veterans, Sons, Auxiliary members and their families. The program is intended to provide the opportunity for members to join their comrades in exciting, adrenaline-filled activities, experience the thrill of the outdoors and develop strong bonds with fellow members and their families.
CALA Skydivers is an affiliate of the CALA and is a group comprised of members who desire to take part in one of the most thrilling and mentally challenging sports on the planet. Members of the group will experience a rush unrivaled in the adrenaline sport world…the unique thrill of human flight. In addition, members of this group will have the opportunity to create special bonds with their fellow group members, based on mutual responsibility and complicated physical and mental challenges.
As a member of the CALA Skydivers, you will have the opportunity to join your comrades, friends and your family in learning the skills necessary to master the aerodynamics of human flight, including equipment knowledge, aircraft protocols, exit, freefall, canopy skills, landing techniques and emergency procedures all in a fun, stimulating and personally gratifying environment. Members who are otherwise inclined, may prefer to start with a tandem jump and then take it from there. In any case, all are welcome and encouraged to join.
But we won’t stop there! Once you have met levels of proficiency and certification, the jumps and formations escalate in difficulty and will continue to build your self confidence, your determination and the bonds that you form with your teammates. Members of this group will be afforded the opportunity to build discipline specific skills including, relative work (belly skydiving), free-flying (i.e. sit-fly, head-down), formation skydiving (large group skydives), swooping (high performance landings) and canopy relative work (CREW) or formation skydives performed while under canopy.
Membership will also entitle you to exclusive discounts on your training, jump tickets and rental costs only available with participation in this program. You will also receive stickers, patches and pins highlighting your achievements, and will potentially qualify you to represent the CALA as a member of one of the CALA Skydiving Teams, which will be assembled by discipline, into teams such as 4-way, 8-way, 16-way, Bigway, freefly, swooping and CREW to compete in the Colorado Skydiving League against other teams across the state. Ultimately, the teams with competitive scores may qualify to compete at the national level at the end of the season in the USPA Nationals.
Participation in the CALA Skydivers is non-exclusive, however all potential members should be in good health, moderately active, and willing to push themselves to their physical and mental limits.
